I call myself an integrative psychotherapist – what does this mean?
Rather than believing one approach has all the answers for every client, integrative therapy is open to multiple approaches from different perspectives that will best serve the client.
I believe that it is essential to maintain a flexibility of approach to best meet the needs of each individual with whom I work. My approaches include aspects of gestalt, psychodynamic, dialectical behaviour and person-centred therapies.
Every therapeutic relationship is a unique undertaking between myself and each person who comes to see me. Extensive research concludes that it is the quality of this relationship that is key to a positive therapeutic outcome for clients. (Lambert and Ogles 2004 p174).
Short, medium and longer-term work
I work predominantly longer term although I have extensive experience of working short to medium term - 8 to 40 sessions.
